About The Event

Start Point: In St. Giles Hill park at the junction of Northbrook Avenue and Baring Road.

Dr. Harry Mycock, Chair of the Friends, will lead the walk and talk about the spectacle of Autumn leaves with their tones of saffron, red and crimson. He will cover a bit of the background science as to why we see leaf colour changes, what role the weather plays and what triggers leaf fall itself.  Most importantly we will be the taking in both near and distant views and pointing out specific trees as we wend our way down the hill, crunching fallen leaves as we go.

On leaving the park the walk will descend Wharf Hill to the Weirs and proceed to Abbey House via the Riverside Walk and Abbey Gardens.

At Abbey House, the Mayor of Winchester, Russell Gordon-Smith, who was formerly a landscape architect, will welcome us and give a brief talk…
