For the first time, University of Winchester students joined the Friends of St Giles Hill Park recently to help improve the Park. The tasks undertaken included litter picking, path clearance and helping nurture 100 trees planted in the park two years ago.
The collaboration came about after Steve Yang, Senior Lecturer at the University of Winchester joined a walk in the Park led by Harry Mycock, Chair of the Friends of St Giles Hill Park in the summer. With the desire to connect students with the community and harness the volunteering ethos in courses at the University a group of six students enjoyed a crisp November afternoon of activity.
Harry commented “Many students use the Park for relaxation and for enjoying the views afforded by the Park so it was great to have students join us to help improve everyone’s experience of the Park”. Steve, who joined in with the Working Party was pleased with the outcome for the student experience and discussions are under way to see how collaborations might be taken further.
