1 November: St Giles Hill Park Volunteers were out last weekend making good use of their new tools and equipment funded by recent grants from Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council. Park Friends Chairman Harry Mycock said the equipment had already made a difference to what may be tackled in the Park and expressed appreciation to City Councillor Chris Edwards and County Councillor Dom Hiscock in supporting the funding application. The Friends, established as a Charity in April this year, began operating Volunteer Working Parties in the park in late August. The focus so far has been on clearing pathways aiming to make the main routes more inviting and also on clearing railings making them ready for painting. The final Working Party for 2023 will be on 4th November at 10am. The Friends are also holding a litter pick in the park on 2 December and, together with the City Council, are taking part in a tree-planting session on 9 December (see events page for more details).
