About The Event

We will be grateful for the support of everyone who can join us in receiving the Mayor when he arrives to plant a memorial tree to commemorate the 130th Anniversary of the Milner extension. Meet at the lower entrance gate on Magdalen Hill (pictured, below).

The works to lay out the land donated by the Earl of Northbrook began in January 1895 in order to provide work for the unemployed, which was high in the town at that time. Under the Poor Laws the Council was obliged to provide work opportunities and could borrow the money to fund such public works at very favourable rates.

You can learn more about Lord Northbrook's gift and the creation of the Park's Milner extension in our past blogs: "Thank you Lord Northbrook" and "Uncovering the Origins of St Giles Hill Park".
